Postponment of AGM and other talks due to COVID-19
First of all, apologies for not being in touch for a while. It may not surprise anyone that until further notice we have postponed the AGM due to the Coronavirus situation. We had also planned OSHG talks on medieval graffiti by Brian Porter and medieval honey production by Linda Ayers, but these will now not be taking place until further notice.
During the summer we usually organise visits to local sites and monuments and we are still hoping that we will be able to do these, probably starting with a trip to the tower, church and earthworks at South Kyme. We have outlined a programme of possible activities in the Upcoming Events section, depending on how the COVD-19 situation progresses.
We have, however, been very busy with the publication on the Old Place project, which we hope will go to the printers very soon.

Old Sleaford Heritage Group proposed activities for summer 2020
The following activities will take place as and when they can be arranged depending upon changes to easement of Lockdown.
An evening walk along the navigation canal at South Kyme. We hope to get a close look at the outside of Kyme Tower, the church and abbey site. The Tower is all that remains of a 12th century Tower House and great Hall that passed from the Kyme family to Umfravill, then to theTalboys. Anne Willoughby, granddaughter of Gilbert Talyboys, Lord Kyme, married Edward Dymoke and then Robert Carr.
A brief talk on Honey production and its importance in mediaeval times as a source of sugar and a valuable asset for candle making. There will be the opportunity for hands on activity, making wax sheet rolled candles.
A visit to Boston to visit the Two Towers, those of Rochford and Hussey. Not just fashion statements in their day but possibly important viewing points for these Merchants to sea ships coming in and out of Boston Harbor. If time permits we will take in some of the Town.
What did the Romans do for us ? Well they built Horncastle and there are a few remnants of wall that we can view. We might be lucky to have an expert guide to help us.
Oakham Great Hall. A sat /sun day trip to visit this classic piece of Norman architecture.
Another tower, Temple Breuer . An informative stroll. Learn all about the Knights Templers Presence in this part of Lincolnshire.
